How to Find Fabulous Last-Minute Gifts

Last-Minute Gifts

If you’re like me, then you tend to wait until the last minute to get things done during the holidays. Work, family, and other everyday obligations take up most of my time, so every year, it seems like I watch the calendar in dismay as the date creeps closer and closer to the holidays.

Here I find myself again, pushing everything holiday-related to the very last minute. I have a shopping list a mile long, and some of the people on it are almost impossible to shop for every year. Of course, that makes my last-minute shopping spree even tougher. That’s why it’s important to have a “go-to” method for hunting down items that will please anyone on your list… fast.

Great Last-Minute Gifts for Kids

The best thing about buying for the kids on your list at the last minute is that they’re much easier to shop for than adults. Simply visit any toy or big box store online and filter your search results by gender and age range. Then – voila – you have a tailor-made list of items ready and waiting for you to buy. You can also accomplish this in-store – just hit up the appropriate section and grab a couple of items that seem popular. (Hint: if it’s on a featured display rack, chances are it’s a hot holiday toy that the child will likely love.)

If you know the child you’re shopping for, picking an item or two from the narrowed-down list should be a breeze. If you’re not too familiar with the kid in question, call someone (not the parent) who knows the child better than you and discreetly question him or her about the little one’s interests. If this doesn’t work, try your luck picking an item from the list on your own, but include a gift receipt in the box for easy exchanges after the holidays end.

Awesome Last-Minute Gifts for Grown-Ups

If you have a few grown-ups on your list who are notoriously hard to shop for, then use the power of the ‘net to shortcut your quest. Nowadays, your biggest weapon is social networking. Start with Facebook. Find out what the people on your list have “Liked” over the past year and use the info to hunt down the perfect gift. Another wonderful weapon is Pinterest. Check out the public boards of those on your list who use the service and pick your gifts from the items they’ve pinned.

Once you’ve exhausted the social network route, check out gift suggestion services such as the gift finder tool featured on Handy online suggestion tools like this will help you narrow down your options for the hardest to shop for on your list.

Remember, last minute gift-giving doesn’t have to be difficult. If you spend an evening doing a little Internet stalking, you can find all the info you need to get the job done in a hurry. If that doesn’t work, then resort to my personal favorite old standby: the almighty gift card.
