How to Get the best Ticket Deals

Published on Aug 11 2010 // Written By // Personal Finance

Are you thinking of going on a vacation with your family? The price of the tickets gets you thinking more than once. It is worse if you are travelling international. Instead of sticking to your favorite airlines, you could land up with great deals if you decide to be flexible in your tastes and preferences. You also should be ready to do a bit of research. Your hard work may just pay off.
It would be wonderful to land great deals where ticket prices are concerned. Here are some tips which could get you lucky:

• Do a bit of research by calling the different airlines rather than depending on your travel agent to give you the best deal.

• Don’t depend blindly on website deals. There might be better deals directly with the airlines. If you see a good rate, also call the airlines and verify. I landed up a better deal with a hotel after I called and checked with them

• Prefer to travel off season rather than peak season. If possible try and fly on week days rather than weekends and holidays. A little here and there could save you some money

• Keep checking deals at online travel agencies like Orbitz.com, makemytrip.com. and others, as they have packaged deals with the airlines and can pass on good rates to their clients

• This is a tad bit risky and sometimes may not suite your travel plans. You could name your own price at priceline.com. But you would have to be at their mercy with regard to the travel itinery. You do get a reduction in price of the ticket by about 40 percent but you run the risk of not being happy with your travel route. This could not be very convenient while travelling with little kids and family

• Sometimes, your travel agent could pass on their discount to you. This helps as the price of the ticket is significantly reduced. Additionally you also have the liberty to choose your travel route.

• Be ready to travel in a different airline. Some airlines may have special deals and you may get a better ticket price if you agree to fly with them, rather than sticking to your old and favored airline.
A little flexibility could take you a long way in getting better ticket deals and help in saving few dollars.
