Saving Money When Staying at a Hotel

Published on Jul 01 2010 // Written By // Personal Finance, Savings

It is always a welcome break to take a vacation and enjoy the sunny skies or the blue seas, or simply just walk around aimlessly in a new place. While you are enjoying your vacation, it is also a wonderful idea to save money, and that to while staying at a hotel. Here are some simple steps that help you save an extra dollar and add to your savings:

Decide in advance: It is always good to decide well in advance your vacation destination. You can book well in advance or decide to travel during off season. Get a seasonal discount as well as avoid the crowd.

Stay multiple nights: It makes sense to stay multiple nights at the same hotel. Sometimes you get better rates for room nights as well as an incentive in the form of gas cards, or free parking.

Book a package deal: These days one can get a good package deal bundling hotel stays, travel and ground travel. Instead of booking separately from different agents, it makes sense to book from one site or one site and avail of the discount.

Book through travel sites: Some of these travel sites have good deals with hotels. They give a good rate which otherwise would not be possible with direct booking. Additionally, you can also compare offers and facilities of other hotels in the same location and then have your pick.

Discount cards: Sometimes you could search websites or auction sites for discount cards to a hotel. These are often sold by people who do not need them. This substantially reduces the cost of your stay.

Join a hotel or club chain: It always pays to be a member of a hotel chain with multiple destinations. To maintain your membership, they keep sending you coupons and discounted offers that can be redeemed against your stay.

Save while stay at a hotel: Little things also add to saving that extra dollar while you are staying at the hotel. Carry enough clothes to avoid the risk of having to pay for your laundry. Minimize the use of room service and gratuity. You can also eat outside and avoid expensive dinners at the hotel. Avoid using the hotel phones; instead depend on your cellular connections.
