Southwest Airlines Rapid Rewards Credit Card Review

Published on Jan 24 2011 // Written By // Credit Card Reviews, Personal Finance, Product Reviews

Southwest Airlines Rapid Rewards Credit Card is offered by Chase Bank. It rewards frequent fliers of the Southwest Airlines. Earning rewards and redeeming them is quite easy with this card. What is more, earned credits can be shared with other people of choice. Southwest Airlines Rapid Rewards Credit Card is considered as one of the best miles cards as it gives members the opportunity to earn flights in a faster manner. It is applicable to those ranging from good to excellent credit and love to fly with Southwest Airlines.

Application is usually made for the signature card, but the Classic card is what is substituted for, for those who are ineligible. The Classic card has differing benefits and lacks the feature of ‘no pre-set spending limit’.

With 16 credits, one can go on a roundtrip flight. There is also a Double Rewards Dollar scheme whereby one earns 2 Dollars for every $1 spent on Southwest Airlines flights, rental car partner purchases, Rapid Rewards Hotel, and more. A one dollar reward can be earned on every $1 spent on purchases elsewhere. On both balance transfers and purchases, it has a variable rate of 14.24%. The APR is 19.24% for overdraft advances and cash advances. Where the penalty rate is applicable, it is 29.99%. It is applicable moreover, for any of the following reasons: for a late payment, for an excess on credit limit, or a returned payment. The application of the penalty rate will come to a halt when the member has made payments on time, for 6 consecutive months.

1. Members receive awards every time they fly, and the points increase with an increase in frequency of flights. However, they have to enroll to the program to receive the awards. Thereafter, they receive an account number, which is what they use to make reservations.

2. Members get a standard flight free to anywhere that Southwest Airlines flies, when they take 8 roundtrips, or if they earn 16 credits, within a period of 24consecutive months.  After achieving this, a Rapid Rewards Standard Award will be deposited into the account automatically.

3. One can convert two Standard Awards into a Freedom Reward, that has no seat restrictions and few blackout dates.

4. Points are earned even faster when they choose a business select fare that has priority seating, premium beverage coupon, security lane access, and 1.25 credits on flights shorter than 750 miles, or 2 credits on flights longer than 750 miles.

5. One can earn credits through their credit cards, hotel, Retail Preferred Partners, rental car and dining.
