Despite what the weather feels like, the calendar says summer is on its way, which is the perfect excuse to do a little bit of shopping. Here are 5 great ways to save on your summer wardrobe.
1) Downsize Your List
Make your summer wardrobe easy and effortless. Write down a few must-haves and buy just the pieces you need to make 10-12 outfits. Some great summer essentials include a maxi dress, bold print dress, shorts, capris, a skirt or two, and a few shirts and tank tops.
Mix and match these essentials with different accessories and light cardigans you still have from your fall wardrobe.
2) Shop Your Friend’s Closet
If a friend has recently lost weight or if you are both the same size, ask if she is getting rid of anything. Of course, it would be better to downsize your closet first and offer her first picks of the items you don’t want.
You could also ask your friends if they want to participate in a clothing swap. Meet at someone’s house and make an evening out of it.
3) eBay It
I look up my favorite designers and clothing brands on eBay to get exactly what I want for a cheaper price. Just beware of buying clothes on eBay that are not from a known designer, since there are several brands made in Asia that may look cute online, but don’t fit right in person.Need to buy #summer clothes for the warmer weather? 4) Shop with Discounted Cards and Coupons
Sometimes you can buy brand new clothing items for less than what you would pay at the thrift store. To do this, buy discounted gift cards or merchandise credit from your favorite store.
For example, I love Kohl’s, and I can buy a $240 gift card for $233. Not the best savings, but it still saves me $7. I then combine that with a 30% coupon code, a $ off coupon code if it’s available, and shop the clearance racks.
I also try to shop on days that give you $10 Kohl’s cash for every $50 spent. Using all of these methods can essentially get me over $1,000 worth of clothing for $233.
Kohl’s doesn’t have the cheapest used gift cards, so you might be able to find better deals for other stores. For example, Ann Taylor Loft gift cards are 26% off at Gift Card Granny, and you can buy a $361.13 gift card for $267. That’s almost a $100 discount. Then you can save even more by using your gift card to shop the clearance racks and use additional coupons or shop through cash back websites.
5) Thrift Stores and Consignment Stores
Of course, don’t forget to check the thrift store. I’m always amazed at the deals I can find. Most of the time, I buy a nice top or dress for less than $5 at the thrift store, wear it for a few months, and then resell it on eBay for $10-20.
I actually did that with a Banana Republic top last season. I bought it for $4.99, wore it for five months, and then sold on eBay for about $12.
