Whether you have a family or not, summer can be chock full of good times! But those good times can get pretty expensive if you don’t plan ahead of time. Which is why purchasing some of your summer supplies now can greatly increase your overall summer fun, while not stretching your wallet to the max.
Fun Water Summer Supplies
Most of us are planning to enjoy a pool or two this summer. And if a pool isn’t nearby, then we may be planning on a lake, river or ocean to help beat the heat instead. No matter which one you prefer to enjoy, we need some of the same supplies to get the most enjoyment out of them.
Some of the best, and most versatile, water supplies to have on hand are:
- Sun Screen
- Aloe Vera (for those sunburns!)
- Beach Towel
- Life Vests
- Folding Chair
- Beach Ball
- Water Bottles
- Beach Umbrella
- Water Shoes
- Swim Fins
- Boogie Board
Of course, there are plenty more sport specific items you can have on hand also, but this list gives you a basic jumping off point. The first half of the list are must haves, in my opinion, so those are the things that I try to make sure we are good and stocked up on.
Where to Find Them
Once you get the list together of what you need and want for your summer water fun, next comes the fun part. Trying to find all of it for the best deals!
The first place I go to are the local kids consignment sales that are usually taking place during February and March. Here are some of the items I have been lucky enough to get at some of these sales:
- Kids Life Vests – $3.00 each
- Beach Towels – $2.00 each
- Swim Suits – Ranged from $3.00 – $6.00 each
- Water Shoes – $4.00 each
- Folding Chairs – $5.00 each
I don’t know about you, but I consider those pretty darn good deals!
After I hit the consignment sales, I go to the thrift stores and consignment stores in my area to find what else is on my list. Since the thrift stores usually have such a diverse selection of all of the items on my list, they are primarily the better choice to go to first after the consignment sales. I am usually only looking for swimsuits, beach towels, life vests, and water shoes at the consignment stores because their selection is more limited with regard to what they carry.
Once I have exhausted all of those options, if there is anything left on my list, I head over to Amazon. They are notorious for having a lot of different items on sale from different sellers, randomly. So I find the things I am still looking for and save them for later to keep a watch on the price. This works fantastically well with my Honey extension because it shoots me an email to let me know when anything on my list has dropped in price. I love this money hack!
When it comes time for me to purchase the items on Amazon because Honey has told me they are at the lowest prices. I make sure to go through my Ebates extension, to potentially get money back in that account also.
Ebates is another one of my favorite tools because it gives me money back just for doing my regular online shopping. Then once I hit a certain amount, I can cash it out for a PayPal gift card or an Amazon gift card, which is usually what I choose to do.
Basically, I am using two extensions on top of already getting the lowest Amazon price, and by using Amazon Prime I am also getting free shipping. I seriously call this a WIN!
Besides making sure that we are stocked up on water fun supplies, we like to make sure that we have some fun activities planned and paid for ahead of time.
Whether the activities are for us to do as a family or as a date for my spouse and I, they still end up costing much less if we plan now instead of waiting until the summer.
The best way I have found to achieve this in past years is to go through Groupon when they are having one of their sales. Usually, up through the end of March, they frequently have regular sales on local fun activities for an extra 20% – 60% off of the regular Groupon rate. So this is the time that I start looking for fun things for us to do during the summer.
Don’t forget to go through the Ebates extension for this also, because they usually give anywhere from 5% – 10% back on any Groupon purchases. Here are just a few examples of some of the great Groupon deals we have scored for this summer’s fun so far:
- Galaxy Fun Park (Indoor Light Up Mini Golf) for 6 people – $29.00 (plus 5% back from Ebates)
- Distillery Tour for 2 people (Date night for us!) – $18.00 (plus 5% back from Ebates)
- Animal Sanctuary Tour for 7 people – $50.00 (plus 5% back from Ebates)
Since there are deals going on for the next month or so, we will probably rack up a few more adventures for the summer still. The kids really look forward to these because they never know what I am going to find, and it’s always an adventure to try something new.
Overall, don’t wait until it is summer to start planning your summer fun. The longer you wait, the more it will potentially cost you. For maximum fun and minimum cost, remember these tips:
- Make your list of supplies you need and want for all of the water fun you plan to engage in
- Shop consignment sales first
- Then hit thrift stores and consignment stores
- For any items that are left, go to Amazon
- Use your Honey and Ebates extensions for the lowest prices and the maximum amount back
- Start searching Groupon for summer deals now
- Check to see when Groupon is having extra percentages off on local deals to spend even less
- Use your Ebates extension with Groupon also
- Wait a few more months for summer and cash in on the fun!
These tips have worked for our family for many years now and we hope that they will help you maximize your fun this summer too!
