One of my favorite things about the holiday season is all the decorations. I love decorating our home and even driving around the neighborhood to look at everyone’s decorations. It just gives me a great feeling especially since winters are so cold where we live and we tend to spend most of this season at home anyway. My husband and I have been trying to add affordable Christmas decor to our stash each year, and it really does add up.
However, if you think you can’t decorate your home for the holidays due to your budget, there are ways around that. Here are some of the best places to find affordable Christmas decor.
Thrift stores are my favorite place to look for affordable Christmas decor along with several other items. The key is to allow yourself enough time to sort through all the inventory. You can find outdoor decorations, ornaments, and even artificial Christmas trees at thrift stores. All of these items are often sold at a fraction of the price they’d retail for in most stores.
Miniature Christmas villages can be really costly – especially the ones that light up or play music. Last year, I found tons of used Christmas village decorations at one of our local thrift stores. You can also find extension cords for your outdoor lights but just be sure to check to make sure they’re still working.
The Facebook marketplace is another great place to find tons of affordable Christmas decor. It’s basically like an online garage sale where you can search for certain items that you need. Whether you’re looking to decorate your tree or your yard, you’re bound to find a lot of budget-friendly options on the Facebook Marketplace.
Sometimes I like to use this option to find unique decor that I can’t find in most stores. Make sure you do your research when looking for items and realize that most sellers may be open to negotiating as well. If you don’t think the price for an item is fair or if you see it’s been listed for several weeks, make an offer based on what you’d like to pay and express how you can pick the item up and pay quickly.
Some really popular items that get listed on the Facebook Marketplace will go fast so you’ll need to communicate clearly and efficiently. However, it’s still well worth it when you consider how much you can save.
Stores like Dollar Tree and Dollar General offer some of the best Christmas decorations for the lowest price. A few years ago, a friend told me they couldn’t afford to decorate their home for the fall or winter season. They thought that my home decorations looked expensive but what’s funny is that most of my decor is from the dollar store.
I live shopping at the dollar store because their products are getting better each year. I can reuse a lot of the decor I get at the dollar store for several years. Plus, some of their items are great for DIYing and creating unique decorations.
One YouTube channel I started following recently is Do It On a Dime. This particular YouTuber always has the most creative ideas for dollar store decorations and cheap home organization hacks.
I’m not going to lie, I do a ton of shopping on Amazon each month because it’s convenient. Amazon also offers some pretty competitive prices as well. I’m a Prime member and I like how some of the items on the site have a coupon ready for you to use
I’d compare the prices of items on Amazon with your local Walmart or Target to see which one is better.
Another one of my favorite holiday decor items on Amazon is their pillow covers. Instead of buying new pillows to change up my decor, I simply started buying low-cost pillow covers on Amazon and it totally does the trick.
If you’re looking to make your living room cozy and welcoming this holiday season, consider getting some pillow covers on Amazon and a soft throw blanket for your couch from the dollar store.
Do you still receive Christmas catalogs by mail? Most people get them but don’t do anything with them. I actually opened one that came to my house this year and I was surprised to see that some of their prices for decorations were pretty reasonable.
Kirkland’s is another catalog that sells affordable Christmas decor. They offer high-quality products that will last for years to come. While their prices aren’t rock bottom, they’re still pretty reasonable. I feel like shopping with a catalog can possibly eliminate impulse purchases that I’d be tempted by in the store. It’s also an easy way to stick to your pre-set budget for holiday decor since you can just pick up enough items to meet your desired spending limit.
I have the best memories of decorating the Christmas tree and putting up decorations as a child. Now that I have my own home, I love to decorate it for the holidays and create a cozy but welcoming atmosphere. It’s important to know where to look when it comes to finding affordable Christmas decor.
Set your budget and brainstorm a few items that you’d like to add to your wish list. Also, realize that you don’t have to buy everything at once. Buy things as you go and add to your stash over time.
