If there’s one thing that everyone should invest in, it’s time. We’re constantly running around, jumping to the next task, trying to find the next opportunity, and never taking the time to stop and smell the roses.
I’m guilty of this too.
Right now, I come home after work and spend a few more hours working on my freelance writing business. I can’t keep up this pace forever though, and I’m looking forward to making the switch to full time self employment very soon.
When I focus all my energy on my own business and no longer have to divide my attention between two careers, I’m going to spend a lot more time on self development and in general, seeking a happier and healthier lifestyle.
First things first, I’m going to read a lot more books. I absolutely love to read. I’ve been a bookworm since was a child, and there’s truly nothing better than curling up with a good book after a long, hard work day. Right now, my schedule offers very little downtime, and I get most of my information from reading other blogs. I can’t wait to get lost in a story and not even notice when hours go by. I might even make myself a reading nook!
When we invest in our health by making time to exercise, we are going to get some of the greatest returns of our life. Right now, I try to do a lot of stretching at night and do a few YouTube work out videos. However, I know that I have to invest even more time in my health as I get older and add to my family. I’ve learned that being thin isn’t the same as being healthy, and I know I should be able to train a little to get to run a few miles without stopping. All of these goals are within reach for everyone, if we just devoted a little bit more time to ourselves!
If there’s anything that I’ve learned over the past few years, it’s that life is excruciatingly short. Sure, we might be focused on the next opportunity or worried about the next promotion, but at what cost? We have to invest our time in enjoying our families, our parents, and our grandparents while we are all still here together on this Earth. All of us have lost someone way too early, yet we rarely learn from those lessons. It’s time we start to realize how precious and how short life really is and start giving ourselves the time we deserve and need to live it to the fullest.
Do you invest your time wisely? Do you spend enough quality time with your family and investing in yourself?
